COVENANT 10 – SHARING OUR COMMON RULE
To deepen understanding of our shared life, local chapters (“chapters” due to the monastic practice of reading chapters of the rule) read a section of the Common Rule at each meeting. Additionally, individual members and cell groups are encouraged to dedicate time to studying a chapter at least once a week. This regular engagement ensures the Common Rule remains a cornerstone of our community life.
The Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ, despite its geographically dispersed nature, fosters a strong sense of connection and shared purpose. This is achieved through a commitment to regular chapter meetings (ideally weekly), where members gather to read and discuss the Common Rule as well as for prayer, fellowship, and spiritual growth. These meetings provide a vital space for members to discuss the Common Rule, scripture, share experiences and insight, and offer support to one another.
In recognition of the modern world and the reality of a geographically spread-out community, the Coworkers of Christ embrace the use of modern technology and virtual platforms to facilitate chapter meetings. Video conferencing tools allow for face-to-face interaction, fostering a sense of connection despite physical distance. Additionally, online platforms can be used to share resources, scriptures, and discussion topics beforehand, enriching the content and engagement level of virtual meetings.
This innovative approach ensures that even geographically dispersed members can actively participate in chapter meetings, maintaining a sense of community and upholding the importance of shared spiritual growth within the Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ.
