Invitation to the Day of Prayer for Peace
The Feast of Saint Martin of Tours November 11th
Opening of St. Martin’s Lent
“Lord, Heavenly Father, help us to become peacemakers, that we may be called the children of God.”
— From the Litany of Peace by Archbishop Karl Prüter
On the Feast of Saint Martin of Tours November 11th, the Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ invites all people of faith and goodwill to join us in a Day of Prayer for Peace as we begin St. Martin’s Lent, a holy season of repentance, reflection, and renewal of our commitment to Christ, the Prince of Peace.
This sacred day begins our yearly pilgrimage into the quiet hope of Advent. It is a time to lift our prayers for the peace of ourselves, the peace of our communities, the peace of our country, the peace of the Church, and the peace of the world.
Throughout the day, we will pray together the Litany of Peace, written by Archbishop Karl Prüter, every hour on the hour, raising our voices in unity and love, that Christ’s peace, which passeth all understanding, might reign in every heart and home.
A Day of Peace — Sample Schedule
8:00 a.m. – Holy Communion
We gather at the altar of Christ, the Prince of Peace, to receive His Body and Blood and to dedicate the day to the ministry of reconciliation and peace.
9:00 a.m. – The Litany of Peace
Offered every hour on the hour until 6:00 p.m.
Each hour’s intercession will be offered for a different intention:
9:00 — For the peace of our own hearts and homes
10:00 — For the peace of our communities
11:00 — For the peace of our nation
12:00 — For the peace of the Church universal
1:00 — For the peace of the world
And continuing hourly through the day for renewal, stillness, and reconciliation.
Additional Activities Throughout the Day — Sample Possibilities
+ Scripture Reflections on Peace – Meditations on Isaiah 2:4, John 14:27, and Matthew 5:9.
+ Contemplative Prayer and Silence – Guided or self-directed sessions in the chapel or meditation garden.
+ Lectures and Discussions on Peace-Building – Exploring topics such as “Inner Peace as the Foundation of Social Peace,” “Reconciliation in the Independent Sacramental Tradition,” and “The Witness of St. Martin as a Soldier Who Chose Peace.”
+ Peace Planning Workshop – Practical conversations about community service and reconciliation projects for the coming year.
+ Midday Meal (12:30 p.m.) – A simple shared lunch of soup, salad, and bread, in remembrance of those who hunger for both peace and daily bread.
+ Evening Prayer and Closing Potluck (6:00 p.m.) – The final Litany of Peace will close the day’s cycle of prayer, followed by a potluck supper in fellowship and thanksgiving.
An Open Invitation
We invite all churches, religious communities, and individuals, clergy and laity alike, to join us in this sacred observance, whether gathered in person or united in spirit. Each hour, wherever you may be, we ask you to pause and join your prayers with ours, lifting one voice before the Lord:
“Lord, hear our prayer and grant us Thy peace.”
May this Day of Prayer for Peace mark the beginning of a holy season of renewal, reflection, and reconciliation, that we, too, might become true coworkers with Christ, the Prince of Peace.

The Litany of Peace
By Archbishop Karl Prüter
Lord, Heavenly Father help us to become peacemakers, that we may be called, “The Children of God.”
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Lord, Heavenly Father, help us purge ourselves of those attributes which make not for peace but which set the stage for war.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Lord, open our minds to see ourselves as thou seest us, or even, as others see us, and save us from all unwillingness to know our infirmities.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
From all hasty utterances of impatience; from the retort of irritation and the taunt of sarcasm; from all infirmity of temper in provoking or being provoked; from love of unkind gossip, and from all idle words that may do hurt, save us, O Lord.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Grant us, O Lord, the strength to obey thy commandments, that we defraud our neighbor in nothing. May we never commit adultery or do anything to disturb our neighbor’s home or family.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Lord, Heavenly Father, grant that we covet nothing that is our neighbors, neither their house, nor their auto, their bank account, their job, nor anything that is our neighbors.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Heavenly Father, help us to maintain peace within our own households, with our neighbors, in our communities, within our own nations, and in the world.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Lord, Heavenly Father we pray not only for the absence of war, but more especially for thy peace, which passeth all understanding.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
Lord, Heavenly Father, grant us Christ’s wish that we may become one with him, and with thee; that in union with thee, we may desire only what thou dost desire, and thus come to know thy perfect peace.
LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER AND GRANT US THY PEACE.
THIS DAY AND FOR EVERMORE. AMEN.
